Solar panels can be mounted on flat roofs, pitched roofs, and on the ground. The best solar site has little or no shading on the panels. If you feel you have a good site, we can confirm this by using a solar pathfinder device to measure your solar potential. If your site is a roof, the roof should have a reasonable warranty remaining and plenty of uninterrupted space.
Another consideration is the distance from array location to electrical service. This distance, if long, can increase the payback period and your project might not pencil out properly.
The true cost savings will be determined by your site, size and your overall budget.
