MAT (Margaret Ann Trotter) and Linda Ray Miller have lived in and supported the Nashville, Tennessee community for many years. MAT has worked for the Vanderbilt University Libraries since 1979 and is retiring this year. Linda Ray is a retired United Methodist minister and is now volunteering at East End United Methodist Church helping in children's ministries.

MAT and Linda Ray found Lightwave when they were driving around town one day and noticed a Lightwave yard sign. After some research they found Lightwave was doing a solar workshop at a customer’s home and went out to see a system in action. From there, they knew Lightwave was a good fit for their project.

Since they had recently downsized and sold their larger home to move into a smaller one, they had the funds to invest into a solar and battery storage system. MAT contacted Lightwave and in the summer of 2021 the contract was signed. From there, design and installation planning began and later that year they were running on sunshine!

A few years later they decided to add another Powerwall battery and just this year added a level 2 EV charger for MAT’s plug-in hybrid vehicle. Today their system totals 6.46 kW of solar and 3 Powerwall battery back-ups.

When asked their “why” for going solar with battery back-ups, both MAT & Linda Ray’s reason was purely environmentally based with the added benefit of having electricity when the grid is down.

“Saving money was never a reason. It is an investment for the good of the planet.” - MAT

MAT and Linda Ray are good about managing their energy loads. They check their monitoring app on occasion and especially before a storm to make sure the storm watch feature kicks in to charge up their batteries.

“What’s really nice about having solar and storage is when we find out the power went out and we didn’t even know!” - Linda Ray Miller

When asked about their experience with the Lightwave team, both MAT and Linda Ray said that everything from sales to installation was great. They expressed their appreciation towards our team’s experience saying, “The electricians and installers, everybody knew what they needed to do, how they needed to do it, and did it well.”
